Electronic vehicle identification: Global demand for German RFID licence plates

Tönnjes E.A.S.T. to present its latest innovations at the Intertraffic Trade Fair in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, February 2018. German company Tönnjes E.A.S.T. will be presenting its latest electronic vehicle identification (EVI) products at the Intertraffic Trade Fair in Amsterdam from 20 to 23 March. Its solutions include the RFID licence plate (IDePLATE), the RFID windscreen sticker (IDeSTIX) and its IDeTRUST software. Its modular security systems are already being used in several countries like Honduras, the Philippines, Kenya, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, where they are successfully protecting vehicles, registration documents and licence plates against manipulation, forgery and theft. This innovative RFID technology with a UCODE DNA chip also allows the electronic, contactless and encrypted identification of vehicles in still and moving traffic. The trade fair in the Netherlands will welcome government officials from around the world, who will be able to find out about the latest technical developments to infrastructure, traffic management, security, parking and smart mobility. “Intertraffic is always an exciting trade fair for us, because many of our joint venture partners and associates also attend and share interesting news and developments”, says Dietmar Mönning, the Managing Director of Tönnjes E.A.S.T.

Tönnjes E.A.S.T. not only develops digital licence plates and safety features for vehicles, but also tailored facilities and machinery for the production of licence plates. At the end of last year, the north-German company was commissioned by the Italian Government Printing Institute, the Institutio Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (IPZS), to carry out the world’s first ever fully-automated production of licence plates. Starting in late 2018, around six million licence plates will be manufactured every year in the new cutting-edge plant near Turin. “We’d like to use this example to tell people at the trade fair what Industry 4.0 could mean for the production of licence plates”, explains Mönning. The modular products and long-standing expertise offered by Tönnjes E.A.S.T. make it a system provider with personalised solutions for licence plate production and vehicle registration. “That’s how we’ve managed to establish ourselves in many countries. Intertraffic is the most important traffic and transport exhibition in Europe, so it’s the perfect opportunity to meet and discuss things in one place", says the Managing Director.
