German license plates
The Euro license plate was compulsorily introduced on November 1, 2000 and is nowadays a standard license plate.
The 12 stars in the blue field represent the member states of the European Union. Beneath the circle of stars you will find the individual country ID.
The registered car owner can determine the period of the year for which the vehicle can be used on public roads. The exact period can be noticed directly from the license plate.
This regulation is quite practical for vehicles that are only used for a couple of months during the year, e. g. motorcyles, motor homes, caravans, convertibles and roadsters. The exact period for the registration has to be included in the application to be forwarded to the responsible vehicle registration office. For example, from March to September.
Temporary license plates are valid for 3-5 days and can be considered as a license plate for transfer purposes within the Federal Republic of Germany. The expiry date can be noticed from numbers in the yellow field. We also provide accordant temporary insurance policies.
Red license plates for transfer purposes or test drives still remain valid.
Export, or so called customs plates, for exportation purposes to foreign countries can be recognised by the red field at the right border of the plate. The expiry date is shown in the red field and the plate has a term of, at most, 1 year.
We also provide corresponding export insurance policies.
The "H" in the plate stands for historical vehicle. The vehicle must have a minimum age of 30 years and the TÜV (Technical Inspection Authority) has to check that the road safety and condition of the vehicle is true to original. The advantage of such a license plate for the registration holder is a flat taxation cost of the vehicle of approx. 190 Euros per year.
